Kundalini Exercise for Releasing Old Energy and Nourishing Adrenals

Get into a meditative state, nourish the adrenal glands and dislodge energy from your lower three chakras with this easy Kundalini warm up.

Life can get stressful, especially in these times. Thankfully, we have access to a lot of calming, grounding tools that help us come back to the present.

One of my favorite tools is a simple kundalini based seated exercise that involves torso movements.

The Sufi Grinds (or Sufi Swirls) help you release energy from the lower three chakras, get into a meditative state, and nourish your adrenal glands.

Benefits

Are you ever ready to meditate but your mind is buzzing with stories? This practice helps you become more present and get into the meditative state of mind.

Kundalini Sufi grinds help to move up old stagnant stories that are living in the bottom 3 chakras: the root, the sacral, and the solar plexus. The exercise helps to activate the stagnant kundalini energy that lies at the base of the spine, which also helps dislodge old beliefs that no longer serve you.

It is also great for nourishing the adrenal glands. So if you are feeling fatigued, haven’t been getting enough sleep, or are stressed, take some time to do the Sufi Grinds, and you’ll be amazed at how much more energized and restored you feel…even after just a few minutes.

In addition, the movement gets into the pelvic bowl, which helps with reproductive organs and can help ease pain associated with endometriosis or menstrual cramps.

How to Do It

For this exercise, sit in a comfortable position and cross your legs. If you need more space in front and around your belly, you can keep your legs open, with your feet touching, to create a diamond shape.

To get more comfortable, you can sit on a rolled mat, pillow, or blanket to raise your hips up. Place your palms on your knees and start moving your torso in a circular motion. Inhale as you move forward, and exhale as you circle backwards. As you exhale, focus on rounding up behind the shoulder blades and opening the space in behind the heart.

Do this for two minutes and then start making your circles smaller and smaller, until you reach a neutral position. Then, start moving in the opposite direction, for another two minutes.

Satnam Mantra

As you move, chant the mantra Satnam. This Sanskrit mantra means “truth is my identity”. As you repeat it mentally, inhaling as you say sat, exhaling as you say nam, you are praying to the divine within you. You are saying “I bow to you, you divine teacher within; I am of the divine, just like a wave is to the ocean, I am part of the divine; I am truth.”
